The France star scored a superb hat-trick while the Belgium striker played a cameo role off the bench and failed to take any of his chances.

Unlike Benzema, who produced two outstanding headed goals in the first half of their quarter-final first leg clash at Stamford Bridge.

He powered in a header to open the scoring, then bagged another header minutes later after brilliantly pulling away from Thiago Silva.

Lukaku, on the other hand, fluffed his lines up front as he missed two glorious chances to reduce the deficit.

Footage of Benzema's headed goals and Lukaku's headed chances has been compiled in a clip, titled: "They're in completely different leagues."

Speaking after Benzema's 'Man of the Match' showing, BT Sport pundits Rio Ferdinand and Joe Cole sang his praises.

Ferdinand said: "Benzema is 34 and he is the best number nine in the world.

"He is another level. Goals, assists, link up play."

Cole added: "He is getting better with age. As things stand right now in the race for the Ballon d'Or he has won it by a few furlongs.

"It is unbelievable that in this stage of his career he has gone: 'I am in charge of the orchestra now, everything goes through me'.

"He is an outstanding footballer."

Benzema's hat-trick against Chelsea brought up his ninth, tenth and eleventh goal in this campaign of the Champions League.

He has now scored 82 Champions League goals and is just three behind third-placed Robert Lewandowski, who fired blank for Bayern Munich against Villarreal.

The 34-year-old will look to add to his tally when his side host Chelsea next Tuesday.
