Wrexham enter race to sign Premier League player with three Championship clubs also interested

Wrexham are preparing for life in League One.

Wrexham have reportedly entered the race to sign a Premier League player but will face competition from the Championship.

The Red Dragons are preparing for life in League One after they successfully secured back-to-back promotions.

Since Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney took over the club, Wrexham have been moving up the English football pyramid.

Looking ahead to the summer transfer window, Wrexham have already been linked with a host of different names including the likes of Jamie Vardy, Arthur Okonkwo and Macaulay Langstaff.

Now, it has been claimed that Wrexham are eyeing a player from the Premier League.

As reported by TEAMtalk, the Red Dragons are interested in Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Marc Leonard in the upcoming transfer window.

Leonard was on loan at Northampton Town during the 23/24 season and impressed as he won the Player of the Season and Players’ Player of the Season awards at the club.

The 22-year-old registered a total of five goals and six assists in League One.

However, Wrexham are set to face tough competition from Championship sides Hull City, Preston North End and Plymouth Argyle.

It has been reported that Leonard could be sold for a fee in the region of £300,000 as Brighton are not expected to stand in his way if he would like to leave the club.

Leonard first moved to the Amex Stadium back in the summer of 2018 and has since spent time on loan at the likes of Rangers and Hearts.

For the Seagulls, Leonard has only made a grand total of two first-team appearances.

Speaking recently about his side’s preparation for League One, Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson said: “Like I have said before, the way we have operated is that we identify the player and then a deal is put in place.

“We then decide whether it represents good value and if it does, then we try and get it over the line.”

He added: “If it doesn't then obviously we move away as we have done in the past for various reasons. We haven't got to the stage of the summer of talking about fees and things like that.

“The clubs we will be competing with for those players will have equal spending power so I haven't really sensed that at the moment that people are trying to inflate the price because it is Wrexham.”
