Romelu Lukaku 'agrees' to join new club just hours before Belgium's crucial Euro 2024 game

Romelu Lukaku 'agrees' to join new club just hours before Belgium's crucial Euro 2024 game

Belgium are set to take on Ukraine in Euro 2024 on Wednesday evening.

Romelu Lukaku has reportedly agreed to join a new club hours before Belgium’s crucial Euro 2024 clash against Ukraine.

Heading into the last round of fixtures in Group E, all four teams are tied on four points.

Belgium, who were the favourites to win the group, suffered a shock 1-0 defeat against Slovakia before winning 2-0 against Romania.

Ahead of the Belgians’ match against Ukraine, which Lukaku is set to start, it has been claimed that the Chelsea man has agreed to join a new team.

As reported by Italian news outlet La Gazzetta dello Sport, Lukaku has agreed to join Serie A giants AC Milan.

During the 23/24 season, Lukaku was loaned to AS Roma from Chelsea. The Belgian scored 21 goals and assisted four in 47 appearances across all competitions.

At Euro 2024, Lukaku would have scored three goals if VAR was not in use.

The 31-year-old had two goals ruled out versus Slovakia before being denied once in the match against Romania.

Speaking about Lukaku, Belgium winger Jeremy Doku said: “He would have liked to have the goals because, now when he scores, I think he's scared to celebrate.

“He didn't have a lot of luck, but he's happy. He's happy because we won our last game. Of course, as a striker, he always wants to score and of course, you think of your individual stats, it's normal. But he's happy with the impact that he's having on our team and the chances he's creating.”

He added: “If you watch the games you can see how important he is for us. He didn't score, but he gave an assist and that's important as well.”

Aside from AC Milan, it has been reported that Lukaku is also attracting interest from Napoli and clubs in Saudi Arabia.

Napoli boss Antonio Conte said, as per Fabrizio Romano: “He’s an excellent player, top player. There’s nothing else to say.

“You always hope to have a player like Romelu on your side… and not against you.”
