Real Madrid missed out on one transfer which the club could end up regretting.

Real Madrid could end up regretting their failure to complete a dream Zinedine Zidane signing.

Over the years, whenever Madrid want to sign a player, they often manage to get the transfer over the line.

This summer, Los Blancos snapped up Kylian Mbappe after the French superstar left Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint Germain upon the expiration of his contract.

However, the Spanish giants did miss out on one apparent target during the summer transfer window.

Back in June, young French defender Leny Yoro was heavily linked with a move to the likes of Liverpool, Manchester United and Madrid.

As reported by Spanish news outlet Defensa Central, Zidane gave the thumbs-up to Madrid moving for Yoro after meeting with club president Florentino Perez.

It was suggested that Zidane told Perez he must sign the defender as the former midfielder believed Yoro could instantly impact the first team.

Ultimately, Madrid failed to sign Yoro, with the 18-year-old moving to United in a deal worth a reported fee of £52 million.

Upon sealing his move to Old Trafford, Yoro said: “Signing for a club with the stature and ambition of Manchester United so early in my career is an incredible honour.

“Since my first conversations with the club, they set out a clear plan for how I can develop in Manchester as part of this exciting project, and showed a lot of care for me and my family.”

However, Yoro has endured a tough start to life in English football after he suffered an injury during the club’s pre-season clash against Arsenal in the United States.

It was reported that the defender had to go under the knife for surgery on a fractured metatarsal.

Yoro has been out of action since and it is currently unknown when he will be able to make a return to the pitch.

Speaking about Yoro’s progress last month, United boss Erik ten Hag said: “Yes, he is doing very well. It is very pleasing that his rehab is going in the right direction and I expect him soon, but what I mean by soon, is that he is now in the right planning process.

“He is in the right spot and he will return as soon as possible into the squad and then the team training.”
