Real Madrid 'decide' to do something they haven't done in five years after Dani Carvajal's injury

Dani Carvajal suffered a serious injury during Real Madrid’s La Liga clash against Villarreal.

Real Madrid have reportedly decided to do something they haven’t done in five years after Dani Carvajal’s serious injury.

On Saturday night, Los Blancos got back to winning ways as goals from Federico Valverde and Vinicius Junior sealed a 2-0 La Liga win over Villarreal at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.

However, the victory was marred by the horrible injury suffered by veteran defender Carvajal, who went down in serious pain in the closing stages of the match.

After the match, it was confirmed that the 32-year-old had suffered a ligament injury.

He wrote on social media: “A serious cruciate ligament injury has been confirmed, I will have to undergo surgery and be off the pitch for a few months. I'm already looking forward to starting the recovery and coming back like a beast.

“Thank you all very much for your messages, I feel very loved.”

On the back of Carvajal’s injury, it has been claimed that Madrid could sign new players in the upcoming January transfer window.

As reported by Spanish news outlet Marca, Madrid could be targeting a new centre back and right back when the winter window opens.

The last time Madrid made a signing in January was back in 2020 when they snapped up Brazilian youngster Reinier Jesus.

Meanwhile, the last player to arrive as a first-team player for Madrid in January was Brahim Diaz, back in 2019.

Now, due to the injury to Carvajal, Madrid could be forced to stop their January trend and make a new signing.

It has been suggested that Castello Lukeba, Jorrel Hato and Vitor Reis are two of the names mentioned by the club’s sporting department.

Against Villarreal, Vinicius Jr was also subsituted due to an apparent injury.

Speaking after the match, manager Carlo Ancelotti said: “He’s blocked. He had a problem with his cervical spine. He’s in pain and they’re going to do tests on him in the next few hours.”
