Arne Slot makes feelings clear on Liverpool's transfer deadline day plans amid links to Alan Varela

Arne Slot makes feelings clear on Liverpool's transfer deadline day plans amid links to Alan Varela

Arne Slot has spoken about Liverpool’s transfer plans for deadline day.

Liverpool boss Arne Slot has broken his silence on the club’s plans for transfer deadline day.

This week, Liverpool have already sealed two deals with Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Marmardashvili set to join the club ahead of the 25/26 season and Juventus winger Federico Chiesa making an immediate move to Anfield.

Ahead of transfer deadline day, there were rumours that Liverpool could plot a late move for FC Porto midfielder Alan Varela, having missed out on Real Sociedad star Martin Zubimendi earlier in the month.

Speaking ahead of Liverpool’s Premier League clash against Manchester United, Slot was asked about potential incomings on transfer deadline day.

The Dutchman replied: “Erm, I'm not expecting anything but if we see an opportunity we could act.

“We are happy with the ones we signed as it was difficult to make the team even stronger. Chiesa is someone who can help us for the short-term and Mamardashvili is an example of (protecting the) long-term future of the club.”

Expanding on Chiesa, Slot said: “I'm excited we brought him in. He can play on the right, the left and through the middle. It’s an interesting signing. We should take care with him. We will build him up in the right way and hopefully see his quality in near future.

“It would not be the first time the English media overexaggerate! He did his ACL but the rest were not big injuries. We trust our performance staff and he is one of four wingers we have.”

Speaking after joining Liverpool, Chiesa, 26, said: “I’m so happy to be a Liverpool player. When Richard Hughes called me and he said, ‘Do you want to join Liverpool?’ – and the coach called me – I said yes immediately because I know the history of this club, I know what it represents to the fans. So, I’m so happy and I can’t wait to get started.

“And I just want to say something that stuck to my mind when I was about to land [in] the aeroplane. I saw Anfield and as soon as I saw Anfield I said to my wife, 'Put the song on, YNWA, because I want to imagine myself playing there and hearing the chant of the fans.’”
