Jamie Vardy at centre of huge transfer battle between six clubs from four different countries

Vardy will officially become a free agent on July 1 after his Leicester contract expires.

Jamie Vardy is wanted by six different clubs from four countries after deciding to leave Leicester, it has been reported.

The 38-year-old has brought to an end a 12-year spell at the King Power Stadium, which saw him score exactly 200 goals in 500 appearances.

Vardy played a key role in Leicester's Premier League triumph in 2016 and became a club legend.

He told Sky Sports last month that he has 'no doubts' over whether he can continue to play in the English top flight.

He also said he would not consider retiring from professional football at the end of his Foxes deal.

According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Vardy has interest from newly-promoted Leeds United - but clubs from Spain, Austria and the United States are also said to be keen on signing him.

Valencia and Villarreal are said to be the two La Liga clubs, with Vardy having gone up against Valencia head coach Carlos Corberan on numerous occasions when the Spaniard was in charge of Championship side West Brom.

There is also reported interest from Austrian giants RB Salzburg, as well as MLS side New York Red Bulls.

The Red Bulls only finished in 16th overall in the 2024 MLS table, but do have a history of attracting elite attacking talent such as Thierry Henry, Juan Pablo Angel and Youri Djorkaeff.

The other MLS team interested in Vardy, Charlotte FC, has a very specific link to the Leicester legend.

They are managed by Dean Smith, who had a brief spell managing Vardy at the King Power Stadium in 2023.

Former Brentford and Aston Villa boss Smith told GiveMeSport that he tried to recruit Vardy last summer but was turned down.

"I did text him and see if he wanted to come over to America," he revealed.

"I knew that it was going to be hard once he took Leicester back to the Premier League - [I love] his enthusiasm for the game."
