Liverpool reportedly tried to swap Darwin Nunez in a shock deal during the summer transfer window.
Nunez joined Liverpool from Benfica for a club-record £85 million in the summer of 2022.
He scored 15 goals in all competitions in his debut season in England and has two goals to his name this campaign, having bagged a stunning brace against Newcastle United in the Premier League.

The Uruguayan made a huge impact as he came off the bench to score two goals in his side's big 2-1 win at St. James' Park last month.
But Liverpool could have been without the forward's services as reports claim the club were prepared to axe him for another player.
According to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Liverpool were willing to swap Nunez for Joao Felix this summer.

Felix, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Chelsea, attracted interest from the likes of Manchester United and Aston Villa before signing a deal with Barcelona.
Liverpool were also supposedly in for the Portuguese winger, who ultimately opted to move to the Catalan giants.
The 23-year-old set his heart on a switch to Barca as he turned down Jurgen Klopp's team as well Man United and Villa.

On his deadline day transfer to Barca from Atletico Madrid, he said: "Everyone knows how happy I am to be here. It was a dream of mine as a child. I’ve been watching Barca since I was a kid, I’m here to help, to be one more and to have a great season."
As for Liverpool, Klopp only recruited midfielders during the summer transfer window, snapping up Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch.
