Anthony Martial's new club break wage structure to sign former Man Utd striker after four months without a club

Anthony Martial's new club break wage structure to sign former Man Utd striker after four months without a club

Anthony Martial left Manchester United this summer.

Former Manchester United man Anthony Martial has signed for a new club after leaving Old Trafford this summer.

Back in 2015, teenager Martial left French side AS Monaco for United in a deal worth a reported fee of £36 million.

The Frenchman captured the hearts of the Red Devils fanbase straight away after scoring a brilliant goal against Liverpool during a 3-1 win.

However, Martial never lived up to the expectations and left the Old Trafford club at the end of the 23/24 season. In truth, the Frenchman’s time at United was badly hampered by multiple injury issues.

Since then, Martial has been linked with moves to Saudi Arabia and Brazil but now his search for a new club is over.

It has been reported that the 28-year-old has signed for Greek side AEK Athens.

As reported by SPORT24, AEK Athens have offered Martial a three-year contract worth £2.5 million per season, making him one of the highest-paid players in the club’s history.

Martial will join former Premier League players such as Erik Lamela, Roberto Pereyra, Nordin Amrabat and Thomas Strakosha in the Greek capital.

During his final season at Old Trafford, Martial only managed two goals in 19 appearances.

In total, Martial made 317 appearances for United across all competitions, scoring 90 goals.

In a recent interview with talkSPORT, France legend Emmanuel Petit spoke about Martial, he said: “Maybe he should ask himself this question, does he have the desire to keep on going with his career?

“Because I have the feeling that the last few years was very difficult for him on and off the pitch.”

Petit added: “It's quite difficult to get a good mind coming in every morning at the training ground and try to give your best all the time because you have a problem in your life, you have a problem in the dressing room, you have problems everywhere.

“So, if I was Anthony Martial, I would ask myself the question in the mirror. Do I still want to be a professional footballer?”
