Angel Gomes could be returning to England, five years after his Manchester United departure after a Premier League club registered their interest in signing the midfielder.

Gomes came through the youth team ranks at United and made a total of 10 appearances for the Old Trafford club after making his debut in 2017 under Jose Mourinho.

Gomes left United in the summer of 2020 after turning down the offer of a fresh contract and subsequently joined French side Lille.

He immediately headed out on loan to join Portuguese outfit Boavista to pick up match experience and scored six goals in 32 matches.

For Lille, Gomes has scores nine goals in 130 matches for the French side and recently made his senior England debut after being called up by Lee Carsley for UEFA Nations League matches.

He has gone on to pick up four caps for the Three Lions, having played for England all the way from under-16 to under-21 level.

As things stand, Gomes's contract at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy expires at the end of the this season and, should he not pen fresh terms, would be available to move to pastures new on a free transfer in the summer.

And it seems a Premier League club is interested in bringing Gomes back to England nearly five years after his United departure.

According to talkSPORT, West Ham United are interested in the potential of bringing Gomes to the London Stadium.

The London club have recently had a change in the dugout with the Hammers appointing Graham Potter as the successor to Julen Lopetegui.

And the 24-year-old has emerged as a potential option for Potter, as has Lille team-mate Jonathan David, whose contract is due to expire in the summer as well.

The report does not mention if the Hammers will make a move for either player in January, as if they wait until the summer then both could be brought in on free transfers.

But should Gomes and Canadian striker David not sign new deals at Lille, this month's transfer window represents the last chance the French side has to obtain a fee for either player
