England defender Kyle Walker believes you can’t call Steven Gerrard the greatest England midfielder of all time.
Gerrard won 114 caps for his country throughout his 18-year career, but the never-ending debate between the Liverpool hero, Frank Lampard and Paul Scholes as to who was the best for their country looks set to continue.
Walker appeared on LADbible’s Agree To Disagree with Budweiser, the official beer of the England football team and was quizzed alongside England team-mate Raheem Sterling and host for the day Conor Coady on several topics, which included the England midfield debate, along with aspects away from the pitch, including who’s the best golfer in the squad and who has the best fashion sense amongst the group of players.

The Man City defender believes though Gerrard is rightly up there as one of the best to represent his country, he couldn’t be considered the greatest midfielder to don an England jersey.
“I’m disagreeing but I could quite easily go to agree,” said Walker.

“I feel bad disagreeing with that because he’s been a much better player than I have ever been. As midfielders though, there’s three right up there – Gerrard, Frank Lampard and Paul Scholes.
“Is he the best midfielder of all time for England ever? I have to disagree because there’s not a standout for me between the three.”
Sterling and Walker then flipped the question on to Everton defender Coady, who simply responded with: “Lampard”, and we’re sure that there was no agenda behind that whatsoever from the 29-year-old who joined the Toffees in the summer on loan from fellow Premier League side Wolves…
All three were in unison in saying that playing at a World Cup for your country is the greatest achievement in football, and while Walker agreed with Sterling that David Beckham’s free-kick for England against Greece in 2002 is the most iconic, he doesn’t agree it’s the best goal that’s ever been scored for the country.

“You look at where he’s done it, how he’s done it, what he’s had to do, to do it to get us to where we needed to get to then it’s iconic,” he added.
“Do I think it’s the best goal for England? No, definitely not. You have to have Paul Gascoigne’s goal against Scotland and Michael Owen’s versus Argentina up there too as contenders.”
