Sensational Ibrahima Konate Compilation Is The Best You'll See In A Premier League Defender's Debut Season

A compilation of Ibrahima Konate's Liverpool performances in his debut season proves he's already one of the Premier League's best defenders.

Konate arrived from RB Leipzig last summer after the Reds paid his £36 million release clause and manager Jurgen Klopp took his time with the youngster.

The 22-year-old didn't make his first Premier League start until the middle of September but since then, he hasn't looked back.

He's scored three goals in his last three starts in all competitions and everyone is starting to recognise just how special a talent he is.

Konate has displayed an incredible ability to read the game and is fearless in defence, as proven by his enthusiasm when battling with AC Milan icon Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

A composed performance in October's 5-0 drubbing of Manchester United is another highlight, as is a key block in December's 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur.

Konate was initially bought as back-up to Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip and he asked Klopp about his role before making the transfer.

A number of top European sides were interested in his signature and he put one simple question to Klopp.

He told The Sunday Times: "I said, 'okay, if I was your son and your son was in my position, what would you tell him to do?'

"Klopp said, 'okay, this club is good and that club is good, but for sure I would tell him to go to Liverpool'. As he was saying this I watched nothing else but his eyes. To see if he was sincere.

"And I saw sincerity on his face. I said, 'this decision will be good for me'. And after, when you think about the other players at Liverpool... which players don’t want to come here?"

Liverpool have already won the Carabao Cup this campaign and are still on for a historic quadruple.
