Son Heung-min makes his feelings clear on Fraser Forster after two horror moments almost cost Spurs vs Man Utd

Son Heung-min makes his feelings clear on Fraser Forster after two horror moments almost cost Spurs vs Man Utd

The Spurs skipper says he'll give the big keeper a "little cuddle"

Fraser Forster was at fault for two of Manchester United goals in Tottenham's dramatic EFL Cup quarter-final victory last night, but captain Son Heung-min has leapt to the goalkeeper's defence.

Spurs eventually booked a semi-final date with Liverpool after seeing off United 4-3 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but only after conceding two comical goals to jeopardise their 3-0 lead.

A Dominic Solanke brace either side of a Dejan Kulusevski strike handed Spurs a commanding lead early in the second half. But then Forster gifted possession to United inside the Tottenham box, allowing Bruno Fernandes to set up a tap-in for substitute Joshua Zirkzee to pull on back for Ruben Amorim's men in the 63rd minute. And seven minutes later, Amad Diallo charged down a Forster clearance, with the ball ricocheting into the net.

Son scored direct from a corner in the 88th minute and United hit back again, this time through a Jonny Evans header, in stoppage time, but Ange Postecoglou's side hung on to see out the win.

"How many times he's saved us this season, I can't even count," Son told CBS Sports when asked about Forster's calamitous performance post-match. "He's been unbelievable, he's been outstanding.

"Even today, before we conceded a goal, he made a couple of good saves that are saving us. There's no doubt, we move on all together. He's an experienced player, so we move on together.

"I'm going to give him a little cuddle."

Sky Sports pundit and former Spurs midfielder Jamie Redknapp, however, was not as forgiving of Forster in his analysis.

"If it was not so serious, it would be hilarious! But it was a masterclass on how not to see a game out from Tottenham. It was crazy to see, but a big result for Spurs which gets them into the semi-finals – but how often do we see it from them?

"I do not know how the manager does it at times, he must be pulling his hair out, but some of the things are his fault, like passing the ball back to the goalkeeper - Forster is the worst player on the pitch with the ball, so stop giving it to him."
