Nottingham Forest could do something in Liverpool fixture that no team has managed in the Premier League since 2016

Nottingham Forest could do something in Liverpool fixture that no team has managed in the Premier League since 2016

Forest take on Liverpool at the City Ground on Tuesday night.

Nottingham Forest could inflict an unwanted statistic on Liverpool during their Premier League fixture that hasn't happened since 2016.

Nuno Espirito Santo's side head into the Premier League clash at the City Ground on Tuesday night occupying third place in the table.

Liverpool lead and are six points ahead of them, having played a game fewer.

Forest have won their last six games in a row in the top flight of English football - the first time they have done that since Brian Clough was in charge in the 1977/78 and 1978/79 seasons.

Victory tonight would see them equal a club record of seven consecutive wins in league competitions.

Should they do so, they would also complete another remarkable feat that no other team has inflicted on Liverpool in almost nine years.

Forest are the only team to defeat Liverpool in the league this season, and would be the first team to do the double over the Reds since Manchester United did it in 2016.

United beat Liverpool 3-1 at Anfield in what was Brendan Rodgers' final defeat in charge before being sacked a month later.

Jose Mourinho's side then did the double by winning 1-0 at Old Trafford on January 16, 2016.

A win for Nuno Espirito Santo's side tonight would at least temporarily move them up to second place in the Premier League table, as Arsenal do not play until Wednesday in the north London derby against Tottenham.

Speaking ahead of the clash, the Forest boss said: "We try as much as possible to ignore what is around. We never change. It is the way we see things, the way we see the competition, it's the way we see life. Day-by-day, focus on our tasks. Tomorrow is another one.

"When we do things well, we should be pleased, but too many compliments can distract us, so we don't want to pay too much attention.

"We are here to compete against all of the teams and I think we're doing well, but nothing changes in our approach, which stays the same. We know what we can do and how we want to do things, we know each other, our strengths and weaknesses. So let's play the game."
