Dele Alli has suffered another setback in what could prove to be a damaging blow to his Everton future.
The 28-year-old midfielder, who last played a competitive game of football in February 2023, returned to the Toffees in April after his loan spell was cut short at Besiktas.
In fact, he was close to returning for their pre-season campaign but after picking up further injuries – including a persistent groin issue in January that required surgery – his return was delayed.

Alli, who is currently a free agent after his contract at Everton expired at the end of June, is being allowed to train with the Premier League club as he continues his intensive rehabilitation programme.
Back in February, a report from The Athletic suggests he was making 'positive progress' after being eager to repay the faith shown in him.
But now, the midfielder is set for another spell on the sidelines after he suffered a hamstring injury in training.

That's according to Everton insider El Bobble, who wrote on X: "Dele, who remains out of contract at Everton, has suffered a hamstring setback in training."
The news comes just three weeks after Sky Sports editor Alan Myers provided a positive update on Alli's progress at Finch Farm.
"I believe he’s all good and is closer to having some game time (U21’s) etc only what I’ve heard," said Myers.
Myers also claimed that a deal has been agreed in principle with the Toffees. "As far as I’m aware a deal has been agreed in principle but that will only kick in once he’s fit and ready to play," he added.

Speaking to Sky Sports last month, Everton manager Sean Dyche was asked about Alli's progress in training.
“Yeah he’s just getting back on the grass again, so building up again from another minor sort of injury," he said. “But unfortunately it cost him a bit more time and he’s just getting on with trying to get fit.”
