Crystal Palace leave first-team player out of official squad photoshoot after being banished by Oliver Glasner

Crystal Palace have left a first-team player out of the official squad photoshoot.

Crystal Palace have left a first-team player out of the official squad photoshoot.

Former Arsenal centre-back Rob Holding was left out of Palace’s official squad photo for the 2024-25 season, with the player having been training with the club’s Under-23s team in recent weeks.

Holding even started for the club’s Under-23s team alongside 17-year-old youth prospect Mofe Jemide in a 3-1 EFL Trophy victory over Gillingham on Tuesday.

The 29-year-old signed for Palace a year ago for £4million, but injury has restricted him to just one appearance for the club in that time in a 3-0 League Cup defeat to Manchester United.

Speaking in a post-match interview following Palace’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea earlier this month, Glasner confirmed that Holding is training on his own after being banished from the first-team set-up for an undisclosed reason.

The Austrian admitted: “Rob (Holding) is training individually at the moment.

“We will talk together. He knows the reason, but it is something that stays between me and Rob. Nothing public.”

Meanwhile, Holding has removed all references to the club on his Instagram.

Even if Holding were to resolve his differences with the club, he faces stiff competition for a first team spot, with the Eagles having signed Chadli Riad, Maxence Lacroix, and Trevoh Chalobah this summer, while retaining the services of Marc Guehi.

After a run of six wins in seven to end last season, Palace are yet to claim a Premier League victory this term.

However, Glasner’s men are unbeaten in five, including a victory against Norwich and Queens Park Ranger in the Carabao Cup.

Saturday will see Palace take on Everton at Goodison Park, with both sides looking to claim their first league win of the campaign.
