Chelsea fans have been full of praise for Angelo Gabriel’s second-half performance versus Wrexham.
In front of a packed Kenan Stadium, Mauricio Pochettino’s men dismantled the League Two outfit 5-0, courtesy of a brace from 21-year-old Ian Maatsen and goals from Conor Gallagher, new signing Christopher Nkunku and Ben Chilwell
But much of the talk after the game was of Angelo’s performance. Operating on the left flank the young Brazilian almost provided an assist for Raheem Sterling, only for the England international to head over an inch-perfect cross.

Then, in the closing stages, the teenager’s energetic 45 minutes were rewarded, as he threaded a pass in behind the defence for Chilwell to score.
So who is Angelo? Chelsea signed the 18-year-old from Santos for an undisclosed fee earlier this week, with the winger having impressed in Brazil’s Serie A.
In October 2020, aged 15 years and 308 days, Angelo became the youngest player in Brazilian top-flight history when he made his debut against Fluminense in the famous Maracana.

Since then, Angelo has gone on to net five times in 129 appearances for Santos, including a Copa Libertadores goal in April 2021 which saw him become the youngest scorer in the competition’s history (16).
The left-footed winger, who has represented Brazil’s under-15s, under-17s and the under-20s is yet to have received an international call-up.
Angelo, who became Chelsea’s third summer signing after France forward Christopher Nkunku and Senegal striker Nicolas Jackson, gave Pochettino something to think about after his second-half showing against Wrexham.

On Twitter, one fan wrote: “He needed only 45mins to show what he’s made of. Looking forward to seeing him in subsequent games. He’s Angelo Gabriel.”
Another said: “Angelo Gabriel came to training just a few days ago, no chemistry with the players yet, he needed [just a] few minutes to show his talent. A very direct player, technical and has eyes for a [...] key passes. He is technically gifted.”
A third wrote: “We don't need a 4th Winger. Angelo Gabriel is good enough to compete with Noni Madueke on the Right Wing. Many criticised the Chelsea Board for signing too many youngsters, but we need to stop. Angelo Gabriel at 18 years old looks like a Special Talent.”
