Aaron Ramsdale was left furious after being on the receiving end of a brutal Southampton dig while playing Fortnite.

Ramsdale was playing with streamer and YouTuber Danny Aarons, with Ezri Konsa and Dominic Solanke also joining in at one point.

The England goalkeeper appeared a little frustrated with Aarons and tried to give him some tips on strategy, saying: "Danny you get nowhere by dropping back bro".

But Aarons, who was 1.77 million YouTube subscribers, saw the comment as an open goal to rinse Ramsdale and he quickly replied, "Tell that to Southampton man!".

Ramsdale claimed that the little jibe "was to the heart" and when Aarons laughed and asked the former Arsenal shotstopper if he had upset him, he said, "a little bit".

Ramsdale and Aarons have gone at it before on EA Sports FC 25 Pro Clubs and clearly he felt they were close enough that he could make the dig at Southampton's place in the league.

Ramsdale was doing plenty of button bashing on the console but he will have to be doing it with care as he is still contending with a fractured finger.

The 26-year-old required surgery back in November and missed five Premier League games in a row, with Alex McCarthy and Joe Lumley filling in between the sticks.

He returned to the starting XI at the weekend and kept a clean sheet in 0-0 draw with Fulham at Craven Cottage.

But with the injury still healing, he was forced to wear an altered, four-fingered glove as a result.

Ramsdale sported a glove which had a much larger area in the middle, presumably to allow two fingers - one of which has been broken - to be taped together and in the same slot.

The glove, which was similar to the one Ben Foster worn when he played Watford against former club Birmingham City back in December 2020, proved handy as he made a number of important saves in the draw.

"Aaron's energy is fantastic for the group and we're fortunate to have such a top-level player representing our football club," interim boss Simon Rusk said on Ramsdale's return.

"He delivered a top-level moment for the team so it's great for Aaron. Great to see him back, I'm sure he's been very frustrated the last few weeks.

"I think hopefully now that's a great platform for not just Aaron but for the team as well bouncing forwards."

Southampton are back in action on Boxing Day when they host West Ham in Ivan Juric's first game in charge.
