Tim Sherwood has claimed that Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is the best Premier League manager of all time ahead of Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson.

Guardiola has had a lasting impact during his respective management spells at Barcelona, Bayern Munich and City, with the Spaniard widely hailed for his incredible success.

The former Bayern and Barcelona head coach arrived at City in 2016 and hoovered up major silverware at domestic level in England.

Guardiola has led City to four Premier League titles, an FA Cup and four League Cups during his prolific spell, with only the Champions League trophy eluding him during his time at the Etihad.

The 52-year-old City manager led his side to a historic domestic treble during the 2018-19 season, while Guardiola’s side also secured a record-breaking 100 points in their 2017-18 Premier League title win.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Sherwood has insisted that fans are “blessed” to have a world-class manager like Guardiola in England’s top-flight domestic league.

“I mean, Pep Guardiola, for me, is the best coach we’ve ever had in the Premier League,” he said.

“I think Sir Alex Ferguson… Sir Alex Ferguson is the best manager by far because he stands up there with anyone but I’m talking about actual coach, someone who’s turning the page over every single week.

“You know, trying something different, teaching everyone something different -- incredible, incredible.

“Doesn’t want to reinvent a wheel. What he does is play players in positions where he thinks it suits them and gets the best out of them.”

When talkSPORT host Andy Goldstein suggested Guardiola ‘tinkers’ too much in big matches, Sherwood responded: “I think you take as highlighted when it’s in the Champions League final, he tinkers in every game.

“What he does, when you’ve got players of that quality, Andy, you can tinker, you can do what you want.

“I mean, you still got a win -- there is lot of people who have had the money down the years and not been able to win.

“This guy knows how to win on a regular basis but not only that, he entertains us. I mean, we’re blessed to have someone like Pep Guardiola in the Premier League.”
