Man United Fans Spot Paul Pogba Asking Marcus Rashford To Defend Before Southampton Equaliser

Manchester United fans have spotted Paul Pogba asking Marcus Rashford to track back in the build-up to Southampton's equaliser on Saturday.

As the ball makes its way to the left hand-side, Pogba is seen gesturing backwards, calling on his teammate to stop defender Romain Perraud from bombing on.

Just 10 seconds later, the ball was in the back of David De Gea's net, with Che Adams slotting home after some questionable Red Devils' defending.

"Anthony Martial was called lazy for doing this exact same thing Rashford did here," Utd Faithfuls, the Twitter account who published the clip of Pogba and Rashford's row online, said. "You can even see Pogba pointing at him to close the player down.

There are quite a few things that went wrong defensively ahead of Southampton's goal, but the clear and obvious thing is the absolute pathetic effort from Marcus Rashford just 2 minutes out of halftime. Surely he can't be gassed right from the break. Awful tracking. LAZY. pic.twitter.com/GPqZ5BkWX2

"It's sad to see Man Utd aren't playing as a team."

Fellow United fans also took to Twitter to voice their outrage about the incident.

"Shocking play," one commented. "But the weirdest thing about Rashford is his body language towards the manager. It's almost as though he hasn't quite got to grips with the realisation that (Ralf) Rangnick will be making decisions about his future both short and long term. He is a problem player."

"Rashford at his early stage in the senior team would have sprinted to cover for (Diego) Dalot or at least challenge the opponent," another said. "It shows that most of these players aren't motivated and they should be moved on. They aren't hungry for success. They aren't ashamed to be called failures."

"Doesn't absolve Martial but agree," a Red remarked. "Rashford doesn't seem to want to get stuck in and isn't having a good season."

This isn't the first time United's work-rate and cohesion has been questioned, with Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhüttl delivering a damning verdict after Saturday's draw.

"It's not a big secret that when they lose the ball the reserve gears are not the best from everyone," the Austrian said, as quoted by The Daily Mirror.

Hasenhüttl's comments were retweeted by Sky Sports pundit and legend of Old Trafford Gary Neville.

"Imagine being a Manchester United player and having a respected opposition manager say that about you," Neville said.

United's stalemate with The Saints is their third in a row and leaves them a point and a place away from Champions League qualification.

"It was the third game we were 1-0 up and I don't think anyone out there should believe that the players don't care, that they like to experience things like that today," manager Rangnick said at full-time, as quoted by The Manchester Evening News.

"This is not the case. The question is with the group of players we have, how do we get more compact, more nasty when defending the lead. This is the major issue but it's not a question of the players not wanting to do that.

"[The players] can be tough but the question is for what period of time and in which moments and if I see the game, the goal we conceded today, quite like at Burnley, it's too easy. It was not even difficult for Burnley and Southampton to score these goals and against Middlesbrough it was similar."

Next up for United is a visit from Brighton on Tuesday night.
