Ahead of a huge North London derby this Sunday, Tottenham fans are backing their team to win away at Arsenal for the first time in 13 years, according to Ladbrokes’ new Fanzone.
That opinion isn’t shared across the board of other fans in the league though, who still believe Arsenal will come out on top, and by some margin.
Tottenham have hit the ground running under new manager Ange Postecoglou, winning four games and drawing one as the Lilywhites sit second in England’s top division. Their most recent win came in a dramatic 2-1 home victory against Sheffield United where goals in the 98th and 100th minute snatched victory from the jaws of defeat.
Like their rivals, Arsenal have also earned 13 points from their first five games in the league. Their only dropped points came against Fulham in a 2-2 draw. Mikel Arteta’s side go into the derby with equally good momentum after a 1-0 win against Everton.
Whilst, according to Ladbroke’s Fanzone data 55% of Spurs fans are backing their team to win on Sunday, history is not on their side. Tottenham’s last win away at Arsenal in the top flight was in 2010, 12 visits ago, where goals from Gareth Bale, Rafael van der Vaart and Younes Kaboul earned Spurs a 3-2 victory.
However, the confidence of Tottenham supporters is not shared amongst other top division fans that are betting on the game, with only 16% of fans that don’t support Spurs backing North London to be white on Sunday.
These statistics come from Ladbrokes’ new Fanzone, where if you’re a fan of a top division side, you can sign up and receive boosts that are made on your favourite team. You’ll also receive a bunch of extra add ons including free bets and free games to play.
In contrast, 84% of Arsenal fans who are a part of the Ladbrokes Fanzone are backing their own team to triumph against their rivals. This is also supported by the fact that on average 74% of fans who support a top division side are convinced that Arsenal will continue their impressive home record against their bitter rivals.
This will also be the first North London derby since Harry Kane’s departure from Tottenham. Spurs’ record-breaking goalscorer had an impressive record against rivals Arsenal, scoring 14 goals in 19 appearances against the Gunners and it remains to be seen whether anyone can fill the void left by the England captain in this fixture.
