A Mexico fan completely destroyed his own TV after their World Cup elimination and even got a knife out in a crazy video.

Mexico beat Saudi Arabia 2-1 in their final group stage match on Wednesday, but the result wasn't enough to make the last 16.

They missed out on a spot in the next round of the tournament to Poland, who had a better goal difference in Group C despite their 2-0 defeat to Argentina.

And their failure to book a place in the last 16 didn't go down well with their fans, with one particular supporter going absolutely berserk.

A video has emerged of a Mexico supporter smashing up his own TV following their World Cup elimination.

The clips shows him punching and slapping the TV, leaving it a broken mess.

He then walks away from the set and returns with a knife before slashing at the screen.

He breaks down in tears before putting the knife down in a bizarre sequence.

Boxing superstar Canelo Alvarez likely had a similar reaction. He was embroiled in a row with Lionel Messi after accusing the 35-year-old of disrespecting the Mexican flag and shirt in the dressing room following their victory.

Sergio Aguero, former world champion boxer Marcos Maidana and Argentine UFC fighter Santiago Ponzinibbio all defended their fellow countryman.

The Mexican superstar eventually backed down, apologising for his actions on social media.

He tweeted: "These last few days I got carried away by the passion and love I feel for my country and made comments that were out of place for which I want to apologize to Messi and the people of Argentina.

"Every day we learn something new and this time it was my turn."

Mexico boss Gerardo Martino, meanwhile, has since left his role as coach, claiming his contract ended as soon as the final whistle blew.

Speaking in his post-match press conference, he said: "I am the first responsible for this terrible disappointment and frustration that we have.

"As the person in charge, it causes a lot of sadness, I fully assume responsibility for this great failure.

"My contract ended as soon as the referee blew the final whistle and there is nothing more to be done."

Legendary goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa, who was playing in his fifth World Cup, added: "For us, the objective was to score three or four goals. It's a shame because we tried and we did our best.

"We created opportunities and I feel like we could have scored more goals today. We weren't sharp, there were offside calls and it's a shame."
