The 2022 Qatar World Cup will be the last we see of Messi on the biggest international stage, as he doesn't plan to play at the next one.
"Yes, definitely yes,” The 35-year-old answered when asked if it would be his last World Cup tournament.
“This will be my last World Cup – for sure. The decision has been made. I am counting down the days to the World Cup. There is a bit of anxiety and nerves at the same time.”

It really is the end of an era, as this being Messi's last appearance on the biggest international stage only serves as a reminder that we are getting closer to the ex-Barcelona star hanging up his boots for good.
Not only this, but his career-long rival and fellow legend Cristiano Ronaldo will probably be playing in his last World Cup too. At 38, it wouldn't be surprising for him to call it a day on the international stage following this tournament.
Lionel Messi will be going to the World Cup in great form, with 26 G/A in all competitions at the time of writing. But people are left wondering, what boots will the little magician be wearing at his last World Cup?

The PSG forward is known for his sleek, light boots but the ones that have been revealed for him to use are, like him, simply out of this world.
The Golden boots are themed around the colour of the World Cup trophy, which Messi and Argentina will surely be looking to lift, come December.
The shape of the boots are similar to his classic Adidas F50s from a few years ago, as the Argentinian has made this shape and style of boot his trademark.

The boots will be available to buy as a limited edition some point this month, and we're sure that they will sell out quickly.
Argentina are heading to the World Cup on the back of a 35-game unbeaten run, and a Copa America win last summer.
That win was Messi's first Copa America title, having lost in the 2007, 2015 and 2016 finals. It was also his first international trophy, and the 7-time Ballon D'or winner will surely be wanting to add the World Cup to that, and to make up for the 2014 World Cup final lost against Germany.
The South American side will surely be feeling confident going into this tournament, with many touting it as one of their best chances to get their hands on the Holy Grail of international football.

But can Messi bring Argentina to the promised land? Only time will tell.
