Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood has been further arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and threats to kill.
The 20-year-old was detained on suspicion of rape and assault on Sunday after a woman alleged that she had been assaulted in a series of pictures, a video and an audio recording posted to Instagram.
Greater Manchester Police have released a statement which reads: "Detectives have been granted further additional time to speak to a man in his 20s who was arrested on suspicion of rape and assault of a woman.
"The suspect was detained in custody on Sunday (30 January) afternoon after we became aware of online social media images and videos posted by a woman reporting incidents of physical violence.
"He continues to be questioned after magistrates authorised an extension until tomorrow (Wednesday 2 February).
"Following enquiries so far, he has since been further arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and threats to kill."
United have already confirmed Greenwood will not play or train for the club until further notice and said on Tuesday: "Manchester United reiterates its strong condemnation of violence of any kind. As previously communicated, Mason Greenwood will not train with, or play for, the club until further notice."
Merchandise featuring Greenwood was removed from United's official website on Monday and any searches for the player come back empty.
Sportswear giant Nike have suspended their partnership with the England international in the midst of the allegations.
Official club partner, Cadbury, have stated Greenwood will not feature in any upcoming marketing or products and that their relationship is with Manchester United rather than any individual.
Greenwood was removed from EA Sports' FIFA 22 title earlier on Tuesday.
A spokesperson for EA Sports told the Daily Mirror: "Mason Greenwood has been removed from active squads in FIFA 22 and has also been suspended from appearing in FIFA Ultimate Team (FUT) packs and Ultimate Draft."
Greenwood made his United debut in 2019 and has scored six goals in all competitions this season.
He would make his England debut the following year.
