Mario Gotze celebrated Argentina winning the World Cup eight years after scoring the goal to beat Lionel Messi and his team in the final.
Gotze scored a dramatic extra time winner for Germany in the 2014 final at the Maracana in what was his career highlight for him.
It kicked off a wretched run for Messi with Argentina as they lost three consecutive finals.

Eight years on though and after ending the hoodoo last year with a Copa America title, La Albiceleste became world champions for the third time after beating France on penalties following a pulsating 3-3 draw.
Messi, Argentina's captain and record goalscorer, finally got his hands on the trophy which has evaded him for so long in his career.
Support for Messi and Argentina wasn't limited to those from the South American nation, a good chunk of the footballing community were rooting for the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner.

And Gotze, the man who broke Argentina hearts all those years ago, shared footage of him celebrating alongside his son as things went full circle.
The Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder was part of Germany's World Cup squad, returning to the fold after five years away.
Hansi Flick's men were of course knocked out in the group stages and so Gotze was firmly behind Argentina.
On his Instagram story, the 30-year-old also shared a graphic of 2022 winner Messi consoling his dejected self from the 2014 final defeat.

When Gonzalo Montiel rolled in the winning penalty, Messi sunk to his knees in euphoria before being mobbed by his teammates.
There was then a special moment where he was surprised by his mother, Celia, who rushed onto the pitch and gave him a huge hug in some wholesome scenes.
The trophy lift was deemed to be a little awkward by many given Messi was made to wear a traditional Arab robe that covered his blue and white shirt.
However, there was still the iconic shot of Messi channelling the spirit of idol Diego Maradona when he hoisted the World Cup trophy in the air while on a teammate's shoulders.
