If he gets his wish, it will bring his second spell at Old Trafford to an abrupt end following his arrival to much fanfare last summer.
After 12 years away, Ronaldo returned to English football and delivered some truly extraordinary moments.
His first game back against Newcastle United was a spectacle itself and he received a spine-tingling reception as he emerged from the tunnel.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner scored twice in a 4-1 win and he would go on to be the deciding factor in so many games.
Ronaldo single-handedly dragged United through the Champions League group stages, with late winners against Villarreal and Atalanta.
Hat-tricks against Tottenham Hotspur and Norwich City helped keep United in the top four race, but they would finish sixth with their lowest-ever Premier League points tally.
Ronaldo finished the campaign with 24 goals in all competitions and despite on and off the pitch troubles at the club, United fans are thankful they got to see a legend come back for one more spell.
