Manchester United take on Charlton Athletic in the quarter-final of the Carabao Cup this evening. But why is the game not on television?
Erik ten Hag’s side have been in imperious form, having achieved their seventh consecutive victory in all competitions at the weekend against Everton. Indeed, in their five games since the World Cup break United have scored 12 times and conceded just one goal.
The Carabao Cup arguably offers the Old Trafford side their best chance of winning silverware this term.

United, who have been starved of any major trophy since 2017, take on League One Charlton, who knocked out Brighton on penalties in the previous round.
The two sides have not met since Charlton were last in the Premier League in 2007 when Sir Alex Ferguson’s United inflicted the Addicks to a 2-0 defeat that helped the south London club hurtle towards relegation.
With the stakes relatively high for both sides, however, it seems strange that the game is not on TV.
Why is Man Utd vs Charlton not on TV?
United vs Charlton has not been selected for live television coverage in the UK.

Instead, the high-flying Newcastle United’s clash with Leicester City has been chosen by Sky Sports for broadcast instead.
Indeed, despite losing in the FA Cup at the weekend, the Magpies are enjoying a remarkable first full season under the helm of Eddie Howe. The club sit third in the Premier League, well on course for a top-four finish.
For Leicester, the Carabao Cup fixture will be an opportunity for redemption, after losing 3-0 to Newcastle on Boxing Day.
While United’s game against Charlton will not be televised, MUTV will be screening pre-match build-up and post-match analysis.

There will also be live radio match commentary, which is also available via the United App and on ManUtd.com. Highlights of the game will be available from 1am on Sky Sports the following morning.
