Manchester City could beat Arsenal to the signing of Declan Rice this summer as they prepare to offer West Ham United the perfect replacement in return.
Rice is expected to complete a big money move this summer with the Hammers in danger of relegation and the player's contract expiring in 2024.
The 24-year-old has been long linked with his boyhood club Chelsea as well as Arsenal and Manchester United.

However, recent reports suggest that City could beat all three clubs to the signing of Rice by offering West Ham his compatriot Kalvin Phillips in return.
According to the Star, as reported by the Express, the Hammers see Phillips as an ideal replacement for Rice despite his disappointing start to life under Pep Guardiola.
The move seems as though it would be best for all parties as it would give the former Leeds player a chance to rejuvenate his career and Rice the opportunity to go and win trophies.
It would also scupper Mikel Arteta's transfer plans at Arsenal and give City and advantage over their Premier League rivals.
He can become 'world class'
The West Ham captain has been admired for several years now and as well as being a key player for his club he has become a mainstay for England.

Rice started every game at the World Cup in Qatar and was praised for his ball distribution and work rate on the world's biggest stage.
Former Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham player William Gallas has said that Rice is one of many young players in the England setup who have the potential to become world class.
As reported by Football London, he said: "Yes, the Premier League is the best league in the world, but do England have the best players? How many truly world-class players do England have? I know I will get killed for saying this, but how many do they have?
"How many world-class players played against France? I think there are only two: Harry Kane and Kyle Walker. Saka, Bellingham, [Phil] Foden, Rice, these guys are the future and with hard work and consistency they can become World Class players."

At such a young age Rice has plenty of time to reach that potential but he has a tough decision to make as to which club will aid his development best.
