Man Utd suffer transfer blow as attacking target agrees to new contract

Man Utd target Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting has signed a new contract at Bayern Munich.

Manchester United target Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting has agreed to a new contract with Bayern Munich, ending any summer transfer speculation.

The 33-year-old was linked with a move to Old Trafford in January, with his previous deal due to expire at the end of the season.

Sky Sports Germany's Florian Plettenberg claimed that United were 'pushing' for a move in January, with Bayern talks having not progressed beyond initial stages at that time.

But despite Choupo-Moting having not yet renewed his contract at Allianz Arena, Erik ten Hag's side elected to sign Wout Weghorst on loan from Burnley instead in January.

The Dutchman has had a significant impact on the United side, despite only scoring one goal since his arrival in January.

The 30-year-old has three assists to his name, and has started every game he has been available for, including the 2-0 Carabao Cup final win over Newcastle and both legs of their Europa League play-off round success against Barcelona.

Choupo-Moting, meanwhile, is Bayern's joint top scorer in all competitions this term, with 15 goals to his name in 24 appearances. And he has now extended his stay at the club.

Man Utd target signs new deal

The Cameroon international, who represented his nation at the World Cup last year, is set to remain at Bayern until the summer of 2024 after agreeing to a new contract.

Speaking to the club's official website, Choupo-Moting said he never had any intention of leaving the club: "I'm super happy to be staying longer and continuing to have lots of fun with the club.

"I feel very much at home here. My family also feel at home in Munich. That's a very important point for me. I'm obviously pleased I can help the team so much.

"I get on really well with the guys, we work hard on our goals. The competition is big, but when you want to be among the best, that's part of it. It's the only way you can win lots of titles.

"And we've still got big plans. The whole package is right at FC Bayern. There's no reason to change anything."

United will perhaps have to look elsewhere this summer, with a permanent deal for Weghorst a possibility. However, speaking after Wednesday's FA Cup win over West Ham, Ten Hag made clear that a decision over the striker's future will only be made at the end of the season.
