Manchester United could be close to making their fourth signing of the summer, with Atletico Madrid forward Matheus Cunha the latest player linked.

United are in desperate need of more signings, after an absolutely abysmal start to the Premier League season has seen them hit rock bottom after just two games.

The embarrassment on Saturday evening against Brentford led to claims that Erik ten Hag should walk away from the club he joined in May.

United are linked with a number of players and even the current senior players are now pushing for the board to bring in reinforcements.

Whilst midfield remains a priority for Ten Hag, as he continues to try and bring in Frenkie de Jong, another forward is also high on his wanted list.

According to talkSPORT, the Premier League side are 'close' to agreeing a move for Atletico forward Cunha, with a €50 million fee expected for the 23-year-old.

The Brazilian joined Atleti for just £24 million last summer, meaning it would be a huge profit in just a year for the Spanish giants, without him scoring too many goals.

Cunha scored just six goals in 29 appearances in La Liga, and provided six assists, which isn't ideal for a team whose only goal so far has come from Brighton's Alexis Mac Allister.

United still have Cristiano Ronaldo at the club, despite the Portugal forward being as desperate to leave Old Trafford as his current club are to bring a new forward through the doors.

Cunha can at least play in a number of roles across the forward line, either as a number nine, false nine, second striker or even on either wing.

Whilst talkSPORT claim the deal is 'close,' Fabrizio Romano says that the player and club have held talks but there is no agreement between the two teams.

Previously United had been linked with Cunha's Atleti teammate Alvaro Morata, but the striker scored twice as Diego Simeone's side as they opened their own league campaign with a 3-0 win over Getafe on Monday night.

They also made a bid for Bologna striker Marko Arnautovic but pulled the offer in part due to negative reaction from fans because of the player's past.

Cunha may be their last chance of signing a forward before the transfer window closes on September 1st, lord knows how they need one.
