Fans think Marcel Sabitzer should have been sent off for horror challenge against Leicester

Marcel Sabitzer produced a brutal tackle on Wout Faes in Manchester United's visit of Leicester City.

Marcel Sabitzer produced a horrible challenge on Leicester City's Wout Faes in the first half at Old Trafford and Graeme Souness thinks he should have been sent off.

Marcus Rashford put United 1-0 up in the 2pm kick off, scoring his 15th goal in 17 games since returning from the World Cup in December.

It came after David de Gea produced two sensational saves to deny both Harvey Barnes and Kelechi Iheanacho.

But there was a controversial moment towards the end of the first half as United loanee Sabitzer was incredibly late and high on Faes' knee.

Sabitzer nowhere the ball and caught Faes badly. Surprisingly though, he didn't even get a yellow card for the tackle and there was no VAR review, meaning the Austrian was let off the hook completely.

However it continued to look even worse with the replays and at half-time, Souness, a man known for his nastiness on the pitch, was adamant that Sabitzer deserved to be dismissed.

"That’s a red card, he’s looking for the player," he said on Sky Sports.

"I don’t care what a referee who has never played the game has to say."

And plenty of viewers concurred with the Liverpool legend that Sabitzer had to get his marching orders.

One said: "Not only is this a red card…Sabitzer didn’t get given ANY card."

A second commented: "If that is not dangerous play, what is? He has turned side on. It is a classic case of setting yourself up to do someone."

A third added: "Unreal that Sabitzer hasn't been sent off for that tackle. What is the point in VAR if it can't say that's a red?"

A fourth wrote: "That Sabitzer challenge is a red card any day, We are lucky."

A fifth opined: "How does Sabitzer not get a red card for that? Studs up & he hits his knee. That’s dangerous play."

Rashford doubled United's lead with his 24th of the season despite initially looking offside on the VAR review, before Jadon Sancho continued his revival by adding a third.
