The 80-year-old will work with the club's board of advisors – Richard Arnold, former chief executive David Gill, former United captain Bryan Robson and football director John Murtough – in the coming months, according to The Mail.
Ferguson, who retired in 2013 after 26 trophy-laden years at the club, has regularly attended home games at Old Trafford since leaving the hot seat.
And he was once again present for their opening day defeat against Brighton.
The former Aberdeen boss has been spotted around Old Trafford of late and recently, Ferguson was about to get into a car when one United fan asked him to make a return.
