Liverpool are reportedly unhappy with the Premier League after they faced criticism from the general public this week.

After their match against Newcastle United on Saturday evening, which they won 2-0 thanks to goals from Cody Gakpo and Darwin Nunez, Liverpool chose to fly back.

The Reds decided to fly the 145 miles between Newcastle and Liverpool instead of travelling by coach or train.

A flight tracking website picked up that Liverpool’s chartered flight was in the air for 33 minutes.

Many questioned why Liverpool felt it was needed to fly back after taking the coach to St. James Park before the match.

On Twitter, some fans vented their frustrations.

One said: “Indefensible @LFC - do better.”

Another tweeted: “Sort this out pls @LFC.”

A third fan added: “This needs to stop, absolutely no excuses.”

According to The Mirror, Liverpool made the decision to fly back from Tyneside due to the short turnaround before they host reigning European champions Real Madrid at Anfield on Tuesday night.

It has been reported that the club have thought about environmental issues when making travel decisions, with distance and cost as the main concerns.

On this occasion, Liverpool and manager Jurgen Klopp felt the performance benefits for the players was deemed to be more important, with Klopp wanting his players to get the best recovery possible ahead of facing Madrid.

The Anfield club aim to be net zero across their operations by the end of the 22/23 campaign. They plan to reach the goal by offsetting their carbon emissions by using verified low-carbon projects.

Earlier on in the season, Nottingham Forest were criticised for taking a 20-minute flight to Blackpool for their FA Cup tie.

Manager Steve Cooper said: “Whether it is right or wrong, I think it is pretty normal for a team, in the Premier League particularly, and for a lot of Championship teams, to fly distances like that.

“It's probably not just a question for Nottingham Forest. It is probably a question for the whole of the Premier League. We are no outliers here. In fact, because of where we are situated in the country, we probably fly less than most.”
