Liverpool are reportedly targeting the signing of another midfielder, following claims that they have reached a 'pre-agreement' with Benfica's Enzo Fernandez.
The Reds are looking to bolster their midfield in 2023, with a number of players out of contract in the summer.
There have also been a substantial number of injuries in midfield this term, with Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Thiago and Curtis Jones all missing game time.

Meanwhile, Arthur Melo's loan move from Juventus has not gone to plan, with the Brazil international making just one appearance before suffering a muscle injury in November.
Reports from Portuguese outlet Record claim that Liverpool have reached a 'pre-agreement' to sign Fernandez from Benfica, off the back of an impressive World Cup with Argentina.
The 21-year-old has forced his way into Lionel Scaloni's starting XI after coming off the bench in the opening two group games. He is set to contest the World Cup final on Sunday.
Now, El Capital claim that Liverpool have an agreement in place with Benfica for the player, which will come as a great boost to Reds fans.

If he does sign on the dotted line, Fernandez might not be the only midfielder arriving at Anfield in January.
Liverpool keen on Atalanta star
According to Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport, Liverpool are keen on signing Giorgio Scalvini from Atalanta in the January transfer window.
The 19-year-old broke into his club's first team last season, making 18 appearances and scoring one goal. He has already played 11 times this term.

Scalvini has already made his international debut, featuring on three occasions for Italy under Roberto Mancini.
What is intriguing about the Atalanta ace is that he came through the youth system as a central defender - and primarily still plays there - but has been converted to a tough-tackling central midfielder by Gian Piero Gasperini on occasion this term.
Scalvini therefore offers versatility in several areas for Jurgen Klopp's side, which would be vital in the event of any injury crisis.
And it is claimed (as per Sport Witness) that Atalanta will consider offers beginning at €40m to sell one of their top starlets.

It remains to be seen whether the Reds could pay the asking price for both players - especially given their interest in Jude Bellingham - but there is no doubt that they would offer a new dimension to Klopp's midfield in terms of age and profile.
