"My goodness" - "The Worst" - Darren Bent slams Liverpool man's Man United performance

"My goodness" - "The Worst" - Darren Bent slams Liverpool man's Man United performance

Liverpool defender Trent Alexander Arnold has been criticised for his performance against Man United

Former Premier League striker Darren Bent has had some extremely harsh words to say about Trent Alexander Arnold’s performance against Man United.

Monday night was a sobering experience for Liverpool fans, as they watched their side slump to a 2-1 defeat against their fiercest rivals.

Sancho fired the hosts ahead in the 16th minute, before Rashford doubled United's lead early in the second half.

Alexander-Arnold’s half-hearted attempts to stop either of the goals are evidently clear upon replay, and it has led to the 23 year-old receiving a flurry of criticism.

Darren Bent, who made 206 Premier League appearances, did not hold back on his evaluation of the right back’s performance and has claimed he’s ‘the worst’ of the England players who are picked for his position.

Speaking to TalkSport radio, the former Tottenham forward said:

“My goodness. Wow. People will keep banging that drum that he’s better than Reece James and Kyle Walker. Absolutely not. Out of those three he’s the worst and unfortunately last night it’s almost like they picked on him.”

This is not the first time the Englishman’s defending has been questioned in the last few weeks, with Mitrovic’s goal on the opening day of the season being an obvious example - the Serbian leaped over Trent to head the Cottagers into a 1-0 lead, without facing much resistance from the Reds’ defender.

However, when it comes to creating chances at the opposite end of the pitch, Alexander-Arnold is one of the best in the world.

Just last year he racked up 19 assists for Liverpool across all competitions, which is a frightening return for someone in his position, but he has often struggled to match this level of quality when defending.

After three rounds of the Premier League season, Liverpool find themselves with the 5th worst defensive record in the league. Jurgen Klopp will be hoping his star right-back can find some of his lethal attacking form and cut out any defensive errors in order to revive the Reds’ campaign.
