Liverpool midfielder James Milner is set to sign a one-year extension at Anfield on significantly reduced wages.
The 36-year-old midfielder has been exemplary in his seven years with the Reds after joining on a free transfer from Manchester City, and many had hoped to see the three-time Premier League winner remain on Merseyside, which is now looking to be the case ahead of the 2022/23 season.
The latest report by the Times has claimed the veteran midfielder is expected to ignore proposals from elsewhere to remain at the club, albeit on 'significantly reduced terms'.

Milner is understood to have turned down an offer of a two-year deal from two Premier League clubs and one MLS side, according to The Athletic, with confirmation of the new contract expected later this week.
It will be good news for Jurgen Klopp, who said back in February: “The level [Milner] is at, physically, technically and in terms of personal desire and hunger for more, means he should play on for as long as that lasts. I hope it will be here and that is what I have told those at the club who take on these tasks."
He’s been playing in the Premier League since 2002, after making his debut for Leeds United aged just 16. After featuring for Newcastle United, Aston Villa and the aforementioned City, Milner has featured 289 times for Liverpool since arriving under Brendan Rodgers.
Known as a consummate professional, it’s a testament to Milner’s physical prowess that he is still playing at the top level two decades after his professional debut.

The Reds are going to need Milner’s presence both on and off-field, with Liverpool having several young players in his midfield position who could use his tutelage.
