Former Liverpool defender Jose Enrique believes that youngster Harvey Elliott will have a successful season.

The 19-year-old signed for the Reds after becoming the youngest player in the Premier League featuring for Fulham. The fee rose to £4.3m, but the Reds only paid an initial £1.2m.

He was announced as a Liverpool player three years ago yesterday and Enrique, who often expresses his fandom online, said that Elliott was and is a fantastic signing for Jurgen Klopp’s men.

Enrique wrote on his Instagram Story yesterday: “Incredible signing back then and I really expect this season to be a big season for him.”

High praise from the ex-Red, who lifted the Carling Cup in 2012 under Kenny Dalglish. But he isn’t the only one with high hopes for the teenager.

Elliott started the first four matches of last season before picking up a nasty injury against Leeds United which kept him out until February.

“For me, Harvey is a new signing as well,” manager Klopp told The Athletic when asked about the club’s new arrivals this summer. “He is very young. He came back brilliant, then had a little low, but that is completely normal so I’m really excited.”

Elliott made his first-team debut for the Reds in a 2-0 win over MK Dons in 2019, and featured several other times in a season that would eventually be curtailed by COVID-19.

He then left for a loan spell at Blackburn Rovers in 2020/21, in which he particularly impressed for Tony Mowbray’s side, scoring seven and assisting 11 in 41 appearances.

The aforementioned injury against Leeds brought a fantastic start to his season to a halt.

He returned to fitness in February and scored in the FA Cup Third Round against Cardiff City.

Elliott will look to feature tomorrow in the Community Shield against Manchester City, or otherwise be targeting a start on return to Craven Cottage on the opening day of the season.
