Liverpool have made contact with the representatives of highly-rated AS Monaco midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni, according to reports, with the France international 'interested in the idea' of playing Premier League football.

The 22-year-old France international, who has been one of Ligue 1's breakthrough stars since his move to the Stade Louis II in 2020, continues to impress for club and country amid intense speculation surrounding his future.

Real Madrid are said to be interested but Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is also believed to be a huge fan of the tenacious midfielder. In fact, the German has made Tchouameni one of his priorities this summer, according to Foot Mercato.

The report from Santi Aouna claims contact has already been made between title contenders Liverpool and Tchouameni's entourage, with the value of the player believed to be 'well over' €50 million.

Klopp is believed to keen on recruiting midfielders, with the likes of Jordan Henderson and James Milner in their 30's.

And the talented midfielder would add strength in depth to an already impressive line-up of Fabinho, Thiago Alcantara and Naby Keita.

Foot Mercato go on to report that Tchouameni has been tracked by 'many clubs' for several months, with Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid believed to be interested.

Despite their interest, however, Los Blancos would 'have a hard time' convincing Monaco and the player financially speaking.

So how good is Tchouameni? Former AS Monaco manager Niko Kovac believes the 22-year-old is the best midfielder in Ligue 1.

“He’s a player who has made great progress,” Kovac said. “He listens a lot to what is said to him and wants to learn and improve with each training session.

“He’s a very humble person. He uses each video session to learn more every day, to find out what was good and what was not good.

“Today he’s a France international but I think he needs to keep it as it is – simple. Everyone shines the spotlight on him but I think he has to keep it simple, so as not to get lost and do more than what is asked of him.

“For me, he is already the best midfielder in Ligue 1 today.”

Thoughts on Liverpool's interest in Aurelien Tchouameni? Do you think he would be a good signing at Anfield?
