Journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed Jurgen Klopp was ‘really surprised’ by how good Darwin Nunez was against Liverpool.
Nunez recently completed an £85 million move to Liverpool, making him the most expensive transfer in the Reds history, blowing the previous record, £75 million for Van Dijk, out the water.
The Uruguay international will be hoping to slot straight into the team and replace the outgoing Sadio Mane, who’s success at Anfield will not be easy to replicate.

Nunez scored twice over two legs against Liverpool, and many believe those two games to be the moment Klopp took interest in the clinical forward.
Aside from his natural goal scoring ability, Nunez’ workhorse ethic is said to be one of the main catalysts of Klopp’s interest.
Speaking on his Youtube channel, Fabrizio Romano had this to say about Nunez transfer to Anfield:
“This Darwin Nunez story started a long time ago.”

“It’s true that Darwin had a fantastic impact against Liverpool in the Champions League games and Jurgen Klopp is a big fan of checking players in the real games in the face-to-face games, with his own Liverpool and he was really surprised by the impact of this fantastic striker.”
Last season, the Uruguayan scored 33 goals in games for Benfica in all competitions and his impeccable season found him linked with some of Europe’s top clubs such as Liverpool and Manchester United.

Romano recently revealed that Real Madrid were ‘really interested’ in Nunez before he made the transfer to Merseyside.
The European champions took an interest in Nunez after failing to sign long-term target, Kylian Mbappe.
But due to Nunez not having a European passport. It made a potential move for the Uruguayan ‘impossible’ for Los Blancos.
It is unclear whether Madrid will look to make another marquee signing.

But it would come as no surprise if the La Liga champions were to bring in another Galactico.
