Goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher has been told to leave Liverpool in search of first-team football.
Kelleher is currently backup to Alisson at Anfield but started in Sunday's 4-1 win over Shrewsbury Town in the FA Cup.
The 23-year-old made his debut for the Republic of Ireland last year and he's hoping to establish himself as number one, something Shay Given thinks isn't possible without playing time.
“He’s in a bit of a predicament Kelleher,” Given told Premier Sports.
“He’s 23 years old, I’m trying to bring myself back to when I was that age and I’m not sure how many games I would have played, but I think he has only played ten or 11 games.
“He’s not a kid anymore, 23 is an age where I think he should be playing regular first team football."
Kelleher has moved ahead of Adrian in the pecking order and he started in a scintillating 2-2 draw with Chelsea earlier this month, as well as the Carabao Cup quarter-final win over Leicester City.
Given continued: “The biggest problem he has is that Alisson is ahead of him. Alisson is in the prime of his life and could be for the next five or six years. Does Kelleher sit there and be happy as a number two? They’ve got Adrian who can sit on the bench and back [Alisson] up.
“For me, it’s so important to play games. He has been training there for a few years and signed a new five-year contract last summer, so he is part of the club’s long-term future.
“Even from a Liverpool point of view, they need to get him out playing, get him that experience, then bring him back and get him challenging Alisson.”
Alisson is regarded as one of the world's best goalkeepers and has transformed Liverpool since his arrival in 2018.
The Brazil international has helped Liverpool to Champions League and Premier League glory since and is reliable between the sticks.
Liverpool survived an early scare against Shrewsbury to advance in the FA Cup.
Daniel Udoh opened the scoring for their League One opponents and it stunned Anfield.
It wouldn't last however as teenager Kaide Gordon and Fabinho converted a penalty to give his side the lead before half-time.
Roberto Firmino scored a lovely backheel after coming on as a substitute in the second half and Fabinho grabbed his second of the game to ensure victory.
Liverpool started six academy graduates plus Gordon, who became the club's second-youngest goalscorer.
The Reds will host Championship outfit Cardiff City in the next round.
