Liverpool sporting director Julian Ward has identified Enzo Fernandez as the club’s next transfer, according to a fresh report.
The Reds desperately need rejuvenation, having entered the World Cup break languishing in sixth place in the Premier League, some seven points from the Champions League spots.
Meanwhile, there is turmoil behind the scenes. Last week, sporting director Julian Ward announced he is to leave the club at the end of the season after only a year in the post.

Ward’s departure comes after the recent news that Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group are believed to be considering selling the club.
Some Reds have been concerned about how the changes in the Liverpool hierarchy will affect transfers. However, players continue to be linked with a move to Merseyside.

O Jogo claims that Ward had identified Fernandez as his next transfer target.
With the sporting director having led the charge for both Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez, Ward has reportedly targeted the Benfica star as his next transfer.
However, Ward’s resignation has put into question the Reds’ short-term chances of signing Fernandez.
January will be Ward’s final transfer window, and it’s one where the Argentina international is not expected to leave.

A Bola claim that any side wanting to sign the 21-year-old will need to pay a £103million release clause in January - over £80million more than Benfica paid for him.
Fernandez dazzled in Argentina’s second World Cup match against Mexico, scoring a wonderful goal late on. A good performance in Qatar will only see Fernandez’s price tag go up.
