PSG 'slapped €400m price tag on Kylian Mbappe' this season, it could prevent him leaving in January

PSG 'slapped €400m price tag on Kylian Mbappe' this season, it could prevent him leaving in January

There's surely no way Liverpool could afford this.

Paris Saint-Germain reportedly placed a €400m (£350m) price tag on Kylian Mbappe earlier this season, as speculation mounts over his future at the Parc des Princes.

Mbappe was strongly linked with a move away from PSG in the summer, with Real Madrid favourites to sign the France international on a free transfer.

He eventually snubbed a move to the Bernabeu, instead signing a new three-year deal in Paris worth a reported £650,000 per week.

PSG have started the new season strongly after tying Mbappe down to his new deal, with Christophe Galtier's side currently one point clear of Lorient at the top of Ligue 1.

But their bright start to the campaign has been overshadowed by reports of a breakdown in relationship between Mbappe and the club - as well as a dressing room rift between the French striker and Brazilian teammate Neymar.

According to Spanish publication Marca, Mbappe is unhappy at PSG and is keen to leave the club in the January window.

It is claimed that the relationship between the player and the French club is now "completely broken".

French outlet Le Parisien also claim Mbappe feels "betrayed" by PSG's hierarchy and believes they have failed to deliver promises that were made to him when he signed his new contract.

Marca claim there is now "no turning back" for Mbappe and that PSG have agreed to "collaborate" with the player over an exit.

But the French champions are said to be unwilling to sell Mbappe to rivals Madrid, leaving Liverpool as one of the only other options for the forward.

The 23-year-old previously held talks with the Premier League club prior to signing a new deal with PSG.

"I talked to Liverpool because it's the favourite club of my mum," Mbappe said earlier this year.

"My mum loves Liverpool. I don't know why, you will have to ask her.

"It's a good club and we met them five years ago. When I was in Monaco I met them. It's a big club."

However, it is unclear if Liverpool would be able to afford a bid for the World Cup winner in January.

Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna claims PSG demanded €400m for Mbappe earlier this season after being contacted by interested clubs shortly after his contract renewal.

"Info: A few weeks after his contract extension at PSG, clubs showed interest in recruiting Kylian Mbappe. [Former PSG sporting director] Antero Henrique then demanded 400M € to give up his attacker," tweeted Aouna.

L'Equipe, meanwhile, claim that Mbappe actually signed a two-year deal, rather than a three-year contract, in the summer – despite posing with a shirt at the Parc des Princes with 'Mbappe 2025' on the back.

It is claimed that the third year is an optional extension controlled by Mbappe rather than the club.

This is significant as it means at the end of this season, Mbappe could be in the final 12 months of his contract – potentially forcing PSG to decide whether to offer him another new deal or sell him to avoid losing him on a free transfer the following year.
