Jamie Carragher has defended Gareth Southgate after angry fans chanted 'you don't know what you're doing' and booed him following England's crushing 4-0 defeat to Hungary.
The Three Lions lost 4-0 to Hungary on Tuesday in their biggest home defeat since 1928.

The Molineux mauling leaves Southgate's side bottom of their Nations League group, having picked up just two points.
The England boss came under fire following their second defeat in four games, with fans inside the stadium taking aim at him.
They chanted 'you don't know what you're doing' and booed him after the final whistle.

But Carragher believes the abuse directed at the 51-year-old was unfair as he jumped to his defence on social media.
He slammed supporters who abused Southgate, telling them to 'shut up' amid calls for him to be sacked.
He tweeted: "'You don’t know what you’re doing' shut up you clowns. This manager has taken the country in two tournaments to the best positions since 1966."
In another tweet, he added: "Also this idea that Southgate is holding this group back is nonsense, this squad is no better than 2004/6 1996/98. Southgate has overachieved albeit with favourable draws. Rest up boys & come back to your normal level."
Southgate described his team's defeat as a 'chastening night' and took full responsibility.

Speaking after the humiliating result, he said: "It's a chastening night. We’ve not lost many matches and when you lose so heavily with England it’s going to be very, very painful.
"I feel for [the players] because, in the two Hungary games in particular, I picked teams where I tried to balance the squad, give young players opportunities, and I didn’t get the balance right for them to perform at the level they needed to win those matches."
England resume their Nations League campaign in September, with fixtures against Italy and Germany on deck.
