Hugh Jackman could have bought one of Ryan Reynolds' Wrexham rivals for £1

Hugh Jackman could have bought one of Ryan Reynolds' Wrexham rivals for £1

Hugh Jackman was approached by many clubs to become an owner

Hollywood actor Hugh Jackman has revealed that he could have bought one of Wrexham’s rivals on the back of fellow TV stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s takeover.

Back in 2021, Reynolds became the co-owner of Welsh side Wrexham after completing a takeover alongside his friend and fellow acting star McElhenney.

Since then, the popularity and attention paid towards Wrexham have grown massively.

Now, Jackman, who has had a long-term tongue-in-cheek rivalry with Reynolds has revealed that he could have taken that rivalry into football for just £1.

Whilst speaking on BBC’s Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg, the Australian said: “I will admit to you that when Ryan bought that team, I did get more than one offer from rivals of that team for £1 to come in as a co-owner and it did seriously tempt me.

“This whole thing of outsiders coming in and buying football teams, it feels a little, I don't know, easy.

“I have decided to go one step further, I am actually going to try out for the team.”

Jackman is a Norwich City fan and has said that he would love to score a goal against Reynolds’ beloved Wrexham.

He added: “I think if I really want to stick it to Ryan Reynolds, then if Wrexham get to play Norwich, because obviously there's a level here, I think it would be best if I was heading in the winner.”

After a valiant run in the FA Cup in which they beat Championship side Coventry City and forced former Premier League team Sheffield United into a replay, the attention is now purely focused on potential promotion to the Football League.

Reynolds has previously outlined his huge ambitions for his club.

He said: “In 10 years’ time the plan has and always will be the Premier League.

“If it’s theoretically possible to go from the fifth tier to the Premier League, why wouldn’t we try?

“Nobody has ever done anything great in this world thinking: ‘You know what, let’s go halfway’, so let’s go all the way and we believe we can do that. Call us crazy, but that's what we want to do.”
