Gerard Pique has finally broken his silence over whether or not he texted former Barcelona teammate Lionel Messi over his World Cup triumph with Argentina.
Messi captured the one trophy that had alluded him in his international playing career after inspiring Argentina to the 2022 World Cup final in Qatar.
The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner scooped the Golden Ball award after Argentina’s thrilling 4-2 penalty shootout win over 2018 champions France.

Messi has vowed to continue playing on for Argentina, with manager Lionel Scaloni confirming a place would be open for him at the 2026 World Cup in North America.
Pique and Messi played together at the Camp Nou, but the pair’s close relationship has reportedly fractured over the Argentine’s shock exit from Barcelona.
According to reports in Spain, Pique allegedly influenced Barcelona with their decision to allow the 35-year-old Messi to leave the club in 2021.

Speaking to TikToker John Nellis, Pique was asked if he had been in contact with Barcelona legend Messi since Argentina captured their first World Cup star since 1986.
The 36-year-old Spaniard, who announced his retirement from football last November, claimed he only caught the final of the World Cup out of all the matches.
However, Pique’s response hinted at a continued rift with Messi as the former Barcelona defender claimed he has been ‘disconnected’ from football.

“Not really. I was, and this is crazy but it is true, I didn’t watch any game,” he said.
“Just the final, not the whole game. I tried to disconnect. I went on holiday for a few days.
“My last few months were tough as a pro and I really needed to disconnect from football.”
