International Footballer Has Joined Love Island After Signing New Deal, Club Say 'The Matter Will Be Reviewed'

Jamie Allen has been announced as a new contestant on Love Island, less than a month after signing a new contract with Halifax Town.

An international footballer has been announced as a new contestant on Love Island just weeks after signing a new contract with the new club.

In June, striker Jamie Allen committed his future to Halifax Town ahead of what would be his fourth season with the National League side.

But less than a month on and Allen is on the move - heading to Majorca to join the popular ITV2 reality show as part of "four new bombshells" going into the villa.

Given it's the middle of pre-season, you can't imagine his manager, teammates and the club on the whole will be best pleased.

The Shaymen have put out a tweet in response to the news, explaining that "opportunity is very important to him" and that the situation "will be reviewed on his return".

Plenty of Non-League footballers have featured on Love Island in the past, while this year one of the contestants is Michael Owen's 19-year-old daughter Gemma.

But Allen's decision to swap west Yorkshire for the Balearic Islands has brought about plenty of reaction on social media:

In his video package, Allen declared: "I shoot, I usually score, if I want something, I’ll go and get it."

Predictably, the 27-year-old's Wikipedia page has been updated to reflect his latest transfer to Spain.

Allen played in the Football League with Fleetwood Town and has turned out for the likes of Barrow, AFC Fylde, Stalybridge Celtic, Southport and Dover Athletic.

He is also a full international with Montserrat and made his debut for the Caribbean nation against El Salvador in November 2019.
