Zinedine Zidane once named little-known Celtic player as the 'best number 10' he'd ever seen

Real Madrid and France legend Zinedine Zidane enjoyed a stellar career.

Zinedine Zidane once picked out a Celtic player as one of the best number 10s he's ever seen.

Frenchman Zidane, 52, is one of the finest players to ever play the game, having played for clubs such as Cannes, Bordeaux, Juventus and Real Madrid.

In total, the former midfielder made 695 appearances across all competitions, scoring 125 goals. He was also capped 108 times by France, scoring 31 goals in the process.

After retiring from playing, Zidane had two spells managing former side Madrid, winning three UEFA Champions League titles among other trophies.

Over the years, Zidane has played with and against some of the world's best players.

However, there was one lesser known player who apparently caught the Frenchman's eye - former Celtic star Lubo Moravcik.

Back in 2016, while celebrating Moravcik's birthday, a quote from Paul Lambert read: "I don't think there was ever a more skilful player in my time at the club. He's the most talented two-footed player I've ever played with and it's incredible the things he could do. He's a great player and a great entertainer.

"You don't get a higher compliment when someone like Zinedine Zidane says he is probably one of the best No.10s that he had ever seen."

Aside from Lambert and Zidane, former Barcelona and Celtic star Henrik Larsson said of Moravcik: "I don't think you could ever replace Lubo, even if you had loads and loads of money to spend. It's going to be hard to replace him, almost impossible I think, because you don't get players like that around very often."

Before joining Celtic in 1998, the Slovak played for the likes of Nitra, Saint Etienne, Bastia and MSV Duisburg.

During his time in Scotland, Moravcik made 129 appearances and scored 35 goals. He also won the Scottish Premier League on two occasions and lifted the Scottish Cup once and the Scottish League Cup twice.

Moravcik left Celtic Park in 2002 to join JEF United Inchihara before returning to former side Nitra in 2003.

Since retiring in 2004, Moravcik has managed clubs such as Ruzomberok, the Slovakia U16s and Zlate Moravce.
