The world's richest footballer who has a net worth of more than Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo combined has revealed the one career regret he has from his time in England.

Messi is seen by many as the greatest footballer of all time thanks to his eight Ballon d'Or wins, the majority of which he won during a legendary spell with Barcelona.

Ronaldo's career has coincided with Messi and the Portuguese has five Ballon D'Or awards to his name, which he won during spells with Manchester United and Real Madrid.

Both men are still playing professionally, with Ronaldo recently extending his stay at Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr, while Messi is with Inter Miami in the MLS.

Thanks to their careers on the pitch, both men have built up extraordinary net worth, with Messi estimated to be worth $650million and Ronaldo's estimated by some to be standing at more than $1billion.

But both of these figure pail into relative insignificance when compared with the net worth of the world's 'richest' footballer.

Faiq Bolkiah, 27, is a member of the Brunei Royal Family and is the nephew of the nation's Sultan, which makes him one of the heirs to his £200bn fortune.

Bolkiah came through the youth team ranks at several English clubs, initially being a member of AFC Newbury in 2009, before he joined Southampton's Academy.

Bolkiah then left Saints and moved to Chelsea in 2014 and departed the Stamford Bridge club at the end of 2015, later signing a three-year deal with Leicester City.

He extended his time with the Foxes in 2019 for another year, before leaving the King Power Stadium outfit in 2020 to join Portuguese side Maritimo.

He left Maritimo in December 2021 to sign for Thai League 1 team Chonburi, and since 2023, the winger has been with fellow Thai side Ratchaburi.

Bolkiah also has trials with Stoke City and Arsenal, as well as a spell training with Reading, to further enhance his experience of English football.

But Bolkiah has previously expressed regret about the route his career took after leaving Leicester after having multiple offers on the table but choosing one in Maritimo which he ultimately looks back on as the wrong direction to have gone in.

Speaking to Main Stand, he said: "I had about three or four offers after Leicester.

"Maritimo said to me, 'You'll come here, you'll play', so I said, 'I just want to be here for a year. The main thing for me is I want to play.' Obviously, that didn't happen.

"I definitely regret moving there. I feel like there was a lot of politics to do with it as well, why Maritimo wanted me. I didn't feel like they were being fully honest."

He added: "It definitely made me stronger. It definitely made me work harder and keep my head down. That didn't change for sure. But I definitely made the right decision to leave.

"I had another two years left on my contract there. They changed presidents at the time, I went in there and they understood my situation. It wouldn't have done me or the club any good for me to be there longer."
