Vincent Kompany has revealed that fans have been saying his name wrong during his first press conference as Bayern Munich’s new head coach.
After weeks of speculation, it was confirmed on Wednesday that former Manchester City captain Kompany will take over as the Bavarian club’s new boss.
A club statement read: “FC Bayern have confirmed Vincent Kompany as their new head coach. The 38-year-old has agreed a contract with the German record champions through to 30 June 2027. The former Belgium international most recently managed English Premier League club Burnley.”

Speaking during his first press conference, Kompany revealed how his first name ‘Vincent’ is actually pronounced. You can watch the footage below.
He said in a clip posted on the club’s official TikTok account: “So my name is actually pronounced ‘Vincent’. But I played in Hamburg for two years.
“And it never worked because it is hard to pronounce for Germans I guess. That’s why ‘Vincent’ or ‘Vinny’ is totally fine.”

Prior to his move to the Bundesliga, Kompany managed Belgian side Anderlecht before moving to Burnley.
The 38-year-old led the Clarets back into the Premier League after winning the Championship title.
However, their return to the top flight was short-lived as they were relegated during the 23/24 season.

Speaking about his Bayern move, Kompany said: “I'm looking forward to the challenge of FC Bayern. It's a great honour to be able to work for this club - FC Bayern is an institution in international football.
“As a coach, you have to stand for what you are as a character: I love having the ball, being creative - but we also have to be aggressive and courageous on the pitch. I'm now looking forward to the basics: working with the players, building a team. Once the basis is right, success will follow.”
