One lucky punter pocketed a staggering amount of cash after last night’s UEFA Nations League fixtures.
For many football fans, the international break can prove a difficult watch and even just a mid-season inconvenience that gets in the way of the ‘proper’ football.
But some supporters choose to take a punt on the fixtures to add excitement to the otherwise often uninspiring encounters.

This was the case for one punter who placed a seven-fold bet on Sunday’s Nations League matches.
The bet that was placed - via William Hill - can be seen below.

Ambitious? Yes. Impossible? No.
This proved to be the case when one punter’s £20 stake placed on the 674/1 accumulator returned £13,496.82.

But the victory was far from straightforward. With just 11 minutes to play in Spain’s 2-2 draw against the Netherlands – 5-4 to Spain on penalties – all seemed lost before Aston Villa defender Ian Maatsen smashed a left-footed shot past Unai Simon in the Spanish net.

To add to the drama, in the evening’s early kick-off, the punter had backed over 2.5 goals in Turkey’s match away at Hungary and the bet looked doomed with the score 2-0 to the away side with just stoppage time remaining.
But Adbulkerim Bardacki scored a last-gasp goal to keep the bet alive.

“This punter might have thought their bet was bound for the bin as the clock ticked into the final few minutes with only two goals in last night’s Hungary v Turkey Nations League tie, but everything changed with Abdulkerim Bardakci’s 90th-minute goal to make it 3-0,” said a spokesperson for William Hill.
“That secured the fourth leg of an amazing seven-fold, and afterwards it was relatively plain sailing for this punter, as they only had to wait until the 79th minute of the final three games to count their winnings, which totalled a huge £13,496.82 from a mere £20 outlay.”
